I sent an email to the local DNR zone manager in charge of 277. I asked him to send me the harvest data from this year and past years in comparison and noted that if the harvest is down as much as they are saying, it should be evidence to stop these special seasons (example: early antlerless) which allows up to 8 deer total. Can't wait for the BS that will come back! I thought we were limited to 3 deer total for most of the state plus a landowner tag if you want your name on a list for public hunting (and you have enough ag acres).

Maybe it was 3 this year? But that is for the antlerless season. That’s in addition to the 3 regular season tags.

I believe with early antlerless, a landowner tag, and Intensive harvest you could get to a total of 7

I’ve talked with quite a few hunters that said the gun hunting season was terrible. I know it depends on location.
My property in Parkers Prairie is getting about half the action on trail cam pics as usual. Started the season pretty good (average) for up there ….but where did they go ? Neighbors said it was slow. Very odd !! Numbers have to be down overall.
I guess we will see where 240 ends up .

Very odd !! Numbers have to be down overall. I guess we will see where 240 ends up . Odd year for me as well. My place had about the same number of deer as it typically does but they were scattered because of the neighbors waste corn which was spread over 200-300 acres. Allot less shooting and allot less effort by hunters. Seemed for part of the season that I was the only hunter in the neighborhood. Overall, shots were down. One additional thing, most of my neighbors over pressure their properties. The rule of thumb is 50 acres per hunter for quality hunting and I think that is a good rule. If you have 2-3 guys on 40-60 acres of woods and you penetrate it and are active on it you will not have deer that stay and become residents on the property. Human scent can be smelled by a deer for two weeks after you walk on a trail. I practice less is more and try not to over-manage or over hunt my place. The deer know the woods on my place is a sanctuary and even if they bust me near the woods edge, they don't leave the property.

Most hunters in my area got deer but not the quality or numbers of the past few years. I still did here of a 160 inch deer and two others that weighed over 200 pounds. There is an additional rumor of 260 pounder, which might be all exaggeration.

From what I can tell, there were more deer shot in my immediate area this year than there were since back when I first moved here. Back then, there were many more hunters around and nobody passed anything. They'd be doing deer drives by midday opening Sunday. There weren't many deer around back then, but it was pretty clear why.

My landlord says there used to be about 20 of them in their party. They'd do deer drives all over the place, pushing deer out of every inch of cover. This year, two guys hunted his place opening weekend, both relatives. Then, it was mine. I didn't see anything but river otters and squirrel.
I can imagine that organized deer drives out here, pushing the isolated cover, would be very effective. It takes a few guys though.
