Lots of "Hollywood" portrayals of guns and cowboys in the moved.....but the facts are often far different. Lets see some facts on cowboys and their guns.
Here is my starter.
The cost of a horse, pistol and the wages of a cowboy Some say about $25/month. Legend has it that a bullet cost the same as a ‘shot’ of whiskey. The term ‘shot’ came from the story that a bullet could be used to by a ‘shot’ of whiskey when they had no money.

You don't really want to get into the fact that vaqueros preceded anglo cowboys by many years, or that they still are actively working cattle in South America?
I like to think about the romanticized version of events as being factual, but recognize that isn't reality.

I like to think about the romanticized version of events as being factual, but recognize that isn't reality. LOL. Hollywood has twisted so many facts about the "old west".....that it needs a whole makeover to ever get close to the real west. I was gonna write more on this topic.....but Meh. Does not have the same appeal to me as last night. grin. I do own a Ruger Vaquero.....and while it is not an "in" gun by most standards today.....I think it is my favorite handgun to shoot. Got mine in 357 Mag....and it's stainless.....so pretty durable piece. I wish mine had the lower hammer (Bisley) as I got a "hitch" in my thumb and cannot always cock the hammer. lol

Most "real" Cowboys I know down here in AZ treat their guns like a tool and buy them accordingly. Utilitarian, beat up, but can shoot lights out. Nothing real fancy because it gets used every day.
