We did 50 with weed mat and cage in less than a day in Iowa … 3 guys. Wrapped it up the next day but not that many hours. Also did 40 tree tubes. That’s planting trees and all. 100 trees total .

Love the weed map around trees, I've found the biggest obstacle for growth of BHS is grass around them. Was getting no growth on mine until I put weed map around them. After weed map growth was 6-12 inches per year. Trees planted the same time with no weed map are 1/4 as tall or less. I don't cage them because I've never had any deer browse problem.

Weed mat or good mulch!

Weed mat, over mulch. Grass/weeds seem to grow thru after a year or so.

I think all 20 or 25 that I planted survived ? Suprised! But the were plugs, so that helps!

I notice the wildlife seem to gravitate to BHS after a snow like this . Cover, concealment and getting out the cold wind really helps I’m sure .

6 inches
Deer and pheasants are moving into the tree lines. I think they were more in the cattails/wetlands.

This spring we are going to put a ladder stand in a 22-24 foot BH spruce. Trim out the backside and shooting lanes . Should be an interesting project

The trails are all 20-30 yds to the north and I’m on the backside. Pic example .. backside of this tree . The one I’ll be in is about 5 feet taller . I think it will work.. are you laying out a challenge! 🙂
