I loved listening to them when I had the place up North. They make great noise.

I have seen more dang deer crossing in my sorghum plot. Must be attracted to the green ? Maybe just traveling ?

Bill Winke has a new video on YouTube discussing his preference for corn and sorghum food plots. It’s informative.

But deer are definitely in there on occasion!

I killed my largest buck, avatar buck, over a sorghum plot. He came to the edge, took one bite and walked down the edge of it and I shot him. Still such a vivid picture after 11 years.

I spoke with a guy in Iowa that has a 3 acre sorghum plot. He flew a drone over his farm one day and the deer were everywhere in his sorghum plot . Including several nice bucks !

What stage of growth was it? We had sorghum this year and deer didn’t hardly touch it.

@aaron— the Iowa guy ? Early fall, finishing out maturity I suppose. My experience is it’s hit and miss with sorghum. It’s not a great deer plot. I like it for variety and cover. Ideally 2-3 acres with half corn 🌽 is a better set up .

Ideally 2-3 acres with half corn 🌽 is a better set up . First I saw of this thread. I'm planning to use BLM Sorghum Sudan Grass next year. The newer varieties (series 6) are a bit shorter but are said to stand better into winter and have more and wider leaves.....that are better secured to the stalk. I'm thinking to mix some others seeds with it (millet or ?). I'd like to plant some strips in my larger clover plots for some vertical cover and to break them up a bit. Bwoods.....FWIW..... A friend gave me a little tour of a very nice (and huge) stand of Sorghum just on the south side of Lake Amelia. (not even 1/4 mile from the lake. The owner has a very large chunk of land with a number of box blinds surrounding a huge block of sorghum (maybe 1 mile x 1 mile?). Sounds like he does food plots and habitat work for others. He certainly has nice equipment and appears to know what he is doing. I got his name and number and plan to give him a call. Thought you may know him?
