The invasive species inspector at a public landing told me that we need to carry bottled water or else dump out our leeches when leaving the lake.
Who adds lake water to leeches anyway? My leeches stay in the cooler.

I can't recall ever having weeds stuck to our boat or trailer.

I really have a hard time believing that a ticket for not using tap water on leeches would actually stick. Not that I'd want to waste a day pleading not guilty to a $75 ticket, but they would have a hard time proving what kind of water is in a bucket.
It is also funny that there was a huge push to keep zebra mussels from spreading, but from what I've seen they actually improve water quality and fishing.

Might need to keep an empty water bottle in the boat to claim that was used to water leeches and minnows just before the warden arrived. I’m never buying bottled water for my bait!

When we bought leeches at bait shop, the bait shop said to keep receipt. She explained if we were checked by game warden the receipt would show that the leech were in proper water and came from a licensed bait shop.
