It seems every dry/drought year that grasshoppers become thick. Yesterday, while spraying a plot the grasshoppers were flying all over the place when I'd make passes on the ATV. If the weather cooperates and the rye/radishes/clover actually germinate will the little bastards eat everything?

I had to do it after my first cutting of alfalfa and I may have to do it again if they get bad again.

What did you spray? edit...seems like if the rains return, the grasshopper population should rapidly decrease. I think cooler/shorter days helps to bring down their numbers as well. They aren't eating my garden significantly, and I don't spray anything on that. I think I'll plan on skipping the spray and see what happens.

I have extremely high numbers of robins in my crappy looking soybean plots now. I assumed they were there eating beetles that are often on soybeans, but maybe they are after grasshoppers.

I noticed a bunch of voles while drilling my seed last week. Never thought about them but i bet a bunch of them could eat a lot of seed?
