I visited with a family friend up in Zone 1. He no longer needs to apply for a doe permit since he is past 84 in age.
He has a sheet of paper where he has written down every deer he killed and is hoping to get #80 this year.

He has some nice heads on the wall when you consider it is zone 1.

He has a sheet of paper where he has written down every deer he killed and is hoping to get #80 this year. I will just add a rambling story here. My Dad was good at tracking deer, he could follow a track into a 40 or 80 and usually bring the deer out and I am talking about when there is no snow. He knew the woods and about where they would bed. There were that few deer in the woods to add other tracks to the mix. This guy’s mom was phenomenal at this and far better than my Dad. In those days, people lived on venison in the north woods. Dad once made a one man drive to me through about 80 acres and just on dry leaves. He came out and asked why I didn’t shoot and I told him a pig came out, not a deer. He said he couldn’t figure the track out as the steps were so short. The pig escaped from a mile away.

This hunter got his 80th deer and word is that it was a 7 or 8 pointer. I guess it is also getting harder for him to access his box stand.
His sister, who is also over 80, got a deer. Word is it was a small one, but that is what she wanted as her husband is gone. Her son boned it out and she packaged it herself.
