I thought we had a thread about this, but I couldn't find one.
How the heck do birds find feeders so quickly? We generally feed black oil sunflower seed from November through April. I put a 4 qt. feeder out yesterday (I ordered a couple new ones, they haven't come yet) and the friggin' birds have it half way empty already.

Several years ago we used to feed the deer and turkeys in the winter before the CWD ban stopped that activity. It was almost unbelievable how quickly the birds, small game and deer would know there is food available. At our place the blue jays seemed to find the food within minutes and they would make a lot of noise. I really think the blue jay noise was like a dinner bell for many other species.

I have a jelly feeder at the cabin. This spring i loaded it up, hung it, went inside. Looked out the window and a goddam oriole was on it.

The new feeders came yesterday. I just put them out and filled them. I got back inside and sat down to look at them from the house and both had birds using them already.
I need to go to town and get black oil sunflower seeds. I wonder how much I'll be paying for 40 lb bags this year?

I can get his info for you if you want. He's about 2 miles south of rose city so he's your way.

If that store were to close, I'd have to run to Alex/St. Cloud/Baxter more often...and I really hate going to any of those cities.

With the price of gas, I am willing to pay a few more bucks locally. I guess there is Amazon

$21 plus tax for 40 lbs. of black oil sunflower seed at Fleet Supply. I picked up two bags. I'm sure I could save a few dollars going with the farmer by Rose City, but I'll stick with paying Fleet for now.
