Picked this up last month for a new project 1948 Dodge, so of course I'm going to put a Buick 350 in it.

That's going to make a sweet street rod!

It's definitely going to be a learning experience for me. I pulled the engine out of a 76 Buick Lesabre. I have it tore completely down and need to drop off the crank to be ground sometime this week.
The Dodge already has a 8.8 posi rear end out of ford explorer and a disc break conversion on the front.
Goal is just to rebuild engine with a new cam shaft and mostly original parts. Get the car running and driving and go back later and add aftermarket heads and intake.

I know there's millions of Chevy 350's around and stuff is cheap for them.

^ Cool looking car body. Have you got room for that engine / tranny combo? As Wink says the chevy stuff is much more common and more aftermarket stuff is more available for Chevy. In any event.....it's a good looking car.

It's going to be sweet. But I have to agree Chevy parts are far more common and cost effective than Buick. I know this for a fact as back in the early 80's I had a 1970 Grand Sport stage 3 455. That is unless you already have Buick parts. Can't wait to see the progress.

^ Every now and again I get the urge to own a street rod or a rat rod. No way I could ever build one again....I lack the ability to get off the floor more than 10 times a day......lol. In my youth I owned several....including a 32 Ford with chevy engine, etc. The urge passes with just a little rationale. lol.

Using the Buick engine mostly because I got the LeSabre somewhat cheaply and was hoping there would be a big block Buick in the car. Small Block Chevy stuff is more available and cheaper but there is small block Buick stuff out there.
I got the Buick before I bought the Dodge. I have the engine, transmission and driveshaft from Buick and thought I would also need the rear end. The Buick will also be a good source of sheet metal I may need. The hood on that thing is enormous. I did drive it a little bit before I disassembled it. Engine actually ran pretty good considering it's age.
The small block Buick is wider and lighter than a small block Chevy.
Measuring the engine should fit. The transmission will fit no problem, there isn't a floor in the car to get in the way. Lol

Picked up some seats, $50 was too good of a deal to pass up. These are out of a PT Cruiser apparently. Tomorrow I plan to pick up my crankshaft that I dropped off to be ground. Then pretty much in a holding pattern until I get my daily driver fixed from hitting a deer.

Just as I was finishing getting my car back together from hitting a deer, one of my kids hit a parked car on the way to school. So there is more time and money diverted away from this project. I did drop off and pick up the engine block from that machine shop (Chippewa Valley Engine & Machine). I had it Thermo Cleaned and Magnufluxed. Pretty fast turnaround 👍

One thing in life I really wish I had gotten,,,, motorhead knowledge. I could never touch a motor/car. I have ZERO knowledge of all the workings.

My Gpa was a mechanic at Anderson Dodge in Minneapolis for a long time.
He bought a new 68 or 69 GTX with a 426 hemi.... Man I wish that car had made the journey to today.
