When the NRCS lady initially visited my land, she brought a technician lady who draws up the site plans that are then used to bid out the jobs. They both said the project looked like something that should get approved and once they check for indian stuff they would draw up a design plan for me to review and approve before they put it on the formal approval list. Hopefully that is the case since I would like to see what they come up with. Having 2 ponds in this area would be great for me since the dams will be able to be used to drive over to access a back 6 acre field that I have. Currently I don't have a way to get a tractor and combine there without going through a neighboring property.
If the NRCS says my project isn't eligible for cost share, I'll have my bulldozer guy come out with his bigger bulldozer and take care of it. I'd prefer to go the NRCS route to save some money and use their designs since they really know what they are doing. I've seen some of their finished ponds and they are built to last a lifetime.

I'm using the NRCS for possible help on projects that are on my want list. For the couple items on my must have list, I brought in a bulldozer on my own dime since I wanted those things done quickly.
I think the government moves at a really slow pace with projects like this, but it is part of the deal. I still think it is worth looking into these options if you can get some cost share money for worthwhile projects. I will say that I've been impressed with the quality of the work on the projects I've seen, so it could be worth the wait. Time will tell.

These people move slow because it guarantees their jobs to continue. This would never take place in the real world.

Government is the least efficient entity in the country. Hence, the slowness.

I contacted my NRCS lady this morning and I guess the paperwork the archeologist submitted to the tribal council still hasn't been returned. I kept my opinions to myself, but what the hell does the opinion of a tribal council matter? This is private land nowhere near a reservation. I guess it usually comes back in a month and it has been 5 weeks. They also haven't done any of the site measurement like they said they may do, but I guess they might get to that this spring or summer.
They also said my sodbuster application isn't back yet and they have to do a wetland survey even though the area in question is on a dry hill. I requested a timeline estimate for that information since I need to get a contract to my renter and I'd like to have the correct acreage.
I guess I'll keep waiting.

I would give them an internal time limit and say fuck it and do the stuff yourself. JMO

Could you imagine what would happen if you took that long to do your job in the real world?

Could you imagine what would happen if you took that long to do your job in the real world? I've never seen anything move so slowly in my life. It shouldn't take 5 weeks to tell me whether or not I can dig up 3 acres of ground that is on a dry hillside. Just give me an answer one way or the other. Hell, in 3 minutes I could look up that field on the MN wetland map and verify it isn't classified as a wetland. They had an archeologist visit my place to check for Indian stuff, just tell me what he found one way or the other. They need to get approval from so many different agencies and groups that nothing ever gets done and nobody sends updates to say when answers will be available.

The archeological shit takes forever. We had a couple of those on sites and only so many people do that sort of thing. It was a pain just getting someone out there to look at it.

The archeologist came out pretty quickly, but that was a month ago and I still don't have an answer about what he found or didn't find. The area in question had a number of old farm buildings on it 75 years ago, so I really doubt there would be any indian artifacts left. I also don't know what happens if they did find something, but hopefully that isn't the case.
