I think there are many species out there that are controversial in regards to hunting. Bottom line IMO is conservation efforts like hunting/managing have worked for the betterment of a species historically. If there is a harvestable population I think there is less of an argument against it as long as it is a sustainable harvest. I think it becomes increasingly unnecessary when the article acknowledges less and less people want whale meat. All that being said I personally don't see a need to harvest a bunch of whales nor do I support what Japan is doing.
