If you can't find a trapper, it is actually pretty fun to hunt beavers with a gun. My beaver pond was pretty small, so a shotgun with turkey loads did the trick. I'm sure a .22 or larger rifle would work too. The beavers on my place prefer aspen, so it is odd to see them cutting down an oak. That looks like a fun spot to sit when the wood ducks are migrating through. They eat oak after they have cleaned out most of the aspen. I would estimate there are 3 beaver dams over a mile and a half of creek bottom. I hope the young guy can trap most of them out. I am losing bedding areas and a travel corridor due to flooding.

Found a dead head deep in the willows. The amount of beds and rubs in that same area was impressive!

Did a little reconnaissance today. Bucks were definitely bedding and creating sign in my Spruce/Pine/Dogwood area. A lot of beds, and noticeable trails. I’m thinking it’s where the “big buck” was spending some of his time ! Beautiful country. Great job. How many years ago??

Did the flooding create any new travel lanes? Yes. One within shooting distance of a neighbor. lol. Sorry Art. When I hunted in the national forest there was a spot I worked into early before daylight opening morning. I hadn’t been in there all year. As the sun came up I realized the crossing I was sitting on was now on the edge of a large beaver pond. They’d moved in there and damaged about 5 acres of oaks and maples. The forest service got rid of them.

NH— I started planting trees in 2002, 2003 (large plantings) . I’ve added about 50-100 replants every year. At least 50% of the dogwood & willow is just growing up wild…natural.
