I was turkey hunting and noticed a big rack sticking up in the woods. Damn, I knew right away it was a buck we had hanging around for a few years. This is on my 52 acres in Minnesota (near Terrace). I’m guessing the neighbor hit him during Muzzy ? Total bummer. Rare brows on him. Just a stud that unfortunately was never harvested by a hunter! Holy shit! That’s a bummer but glad you found it!

That’s a bummer but, what’s weird is that skull hadn’t been chewed up. Around here they don’t last very long. The nose and points get chewed down pretty quickly by coyotes, squirrels, and porcupines.

Oophta, that's a tough one to find dead. What a deer he'd of been this year.

The heavy rack and shorter tines remind me of northwoods deer or farm country deer past their prime. The previous winter also had to hurt antler growth. I don’t think we saw as many outstanding bucks in Outdoor News this year. Of course, genetics vary.

I think he was a 4 year old… gut wrenching! I’d bet he would have went 165-170 this year ? He is actually nicer than the pics show. Just a rare stud !

That’s a great buck. When was the last time you had him on camera?

That’s a great buck. When was the last time you had him on camera? I’d have to look back, early November I think . It almost had to be Muzzy when he died. I would have seen him in mid November where I found him.

That sucks. Hopefully a nice one will move into his area! Well there’s a chance that could happen . I’m the only landowner in that area that does food plots, hinge cutting, habitat work etc... The neighbor to the east has 400+ acres and is really prime ! He has some CRP, but not one plot or tillable field ? The neighbor to the west has crop land, but it’s all tilled up pretty fast . They are the worst hunters in the state ! I doubt they shot this buck ? I think they had 9-10 guys out there. These guys arrive on Thursday night before slug season and walk around the entire farm. Then they drive ATVs and golf carts to their stands. It sounds like Motocross in the morning ! Insanity . I purposely avoid this parcel (during the 9 day gun season) because they are not safe or smart hunters. Most years they only shoot 2-3 deer because they’ve scared them out of the area .
