My trees from Cummings are arriving today. I won't be able to plant until next Wednesday. I plan on keeping them in the garage until then. I will open package and check daily to make sure roots are kept moist. Anyone see any issues with this!

No problem, that's what I do. Keep them cool and moist, plant as soon as you can.

Stu,
Do you recommend soaking them in a tub of water for a few hours just prior to planting?

Stu, Do you recommend soaking them in a tub of water for a few hours just prior to planting? I always do that, just wasn't sure if letting them sit in the garage for a week would be ok. I plan on checking them daily and keeping roots moist. When I plant I throw them in a 5 gallon bucket to soak.

I'll know shortly, but I'm expecting whips. Does everyone cut their whips back when planting? I believe I read you should cut them back to 38" from the graft union. I've always just planted my whips as is and haven't lost any yet.

Here is crazy eds description of the trees he received, would you guys plant as is or cut everything back?
Hi Appleman, I ordered my Franklin trees from Cummins which I believe you mentioned ultimately came from Stark. They were nice sized with probably (6) 12" feathers on each tree. Not quite as big as the magnum plum trees i got from them but the Franklin's were solid to say the least. Sorry I didn't have time to snap a picture.

Here are the trees, they were still moist in the bag so I added just a half cup of water. Would you guys still snip these back at all?

Can't answer about clipping them back but , cool, moist and I'd add dark storage till you plant.

I know it hurts to clip them back but, they'll respond better if you do. Take 3" off and call it good.

I like to prune back a few inches to the best looking bud. I would also recommend getting some water absorb or root gel. I know this saved my trees last year. We had a bad drought and I never watered after planting and all my trees made it. It is the best $10 you can spend. Any nursery should have it.
