I sell 12lb trophy rocks to the BOBS that stop by for $13. Tractor supply has 12lb Redman rocks for $13.
I think they are the same.....good call!

Whats the purpose of the Redmond Salt? Survey the herd? Just trying to provide a more complete set of nutrients. This block is anywhere from 4-9% minerals. I'll likely never be able to quantify a positive change, but for $6 more per block vs standard trace mineral blocks which are 99% salt and much fewer trace minerals, I see it as a worthwhile investment. I look at it as one of those things to not scrimp on. I'm butt loads of money deep into this habitat obsession, I won't let $6/year stop me from possibly getting much needed trace elements into the critters. The place I got it from has one cattle farmer in the area that swears by it, so he keeps it in stock for him. I'd like to find more people in the area to get on board with this to ensure he keeps getting it. A $12 salt block could turn most off quickly if they don't realize the difference in composition and processing.

Trophy Rock and Redmond's are almost all salt. I'm using Kent Framework 365 ADE cattle mineral this year based on the recommendation of a hugely successful deer guy in Iowa. He swears it has made a difference in mass and kicker points on his farms but he also has a intense food plot program so it's not all the mineral. Far less salt in it and higher content of productive minerals. $20 for a 50 lb bag and the deer are on it.

Good conversation!
I'm not concerned with the macro minerals like calcium, phosphorus, iron, manganese, copper etc. I can put those into the soil and plants (once I get to it). It's the obscure trace minerals that you can't put into the soil that I'm looking for.

So I went past my redmond blocks this weekend. Interesting observation, the block I put out in the spring is still nearly intact. The one I put out in spring of 2017 is still there, and will likely still be there come spring of 2019. For the deer numbers I have, seems like a single block would last me two year. If I put a couple in the shed, I'll be good for five more years.
I wonder if I shouldn't toss the small remnant one right into the water hole and really sweeten up that mud.

SD, I use bag minerals (the one's for cattle like MN Slick posted a yr ago) next to my water hole. The hole I dump them into is close to edge of the water hole and when it's full the mineral is under water. I get most of the trailcam pics I post on my thread from that water hole, the deer either use the water or the mineral site all yr... not just spring. I had some fear of creating a habitat for the midge that spreads EHD but when I looked at the local area I realized habitat for the midge is abundant so I figured that this particular spot wouldn't matter much. I can't say that mineral has made any difference at all in antler size but it sure makes a reliable place to get pics.

In MN salt blocks are illegal in some counties - I believe the areas around the CWD areas. It is illegal to use salt or minerals in my county in SE MN.
My buddy in Iowa used salt blocks to get pics of deer in the summer on their trail cameras. But I guess it's illegal to have anything out during the deer season (or at least it was illegal 3 years ago when he got in trouble), even if all the salt is gone and just mixed in the dirt. His friend's daughter killed a big buck that was confiscated by the DNR since there were still traces of salt in the dirt.

Do they check each kill site of the large deer?
