Was up north since Tuesday turkey hunting. I took my beater trapping/hunting truck. My wife came up Friday night with my newer 2011 Silverado with 55,000 miles on it. I got up early to go turkey hunting with my son. Get a text from wife that my truck has an oil leak. It never ever dripped or used oil. I get back and look the whole under carriage is covered with oil, pull the dip stick and the truck is low on oil. Probably 2 quarts down. Warning lite or warning message never came on. Started it up quick to see where oil leak was and oil was pouring out from oil filter. The oil and filter were changed right before Christmas. Don't put a lot of miles on truck. Tomorrow I will drop filter and put new one on. Hopefully that solves the leak. I had the oil and filter changed at Chevy dealer where I bought it new. I am hoping that no damage was done to engine. Going to be some bichin at dealer when I get back home. A couple different mechanics said either the filter was defective or installed improperly. Well I feel better rant over. .

There shouldn't be any damage. I'm surprised the warning light didn't come on, I'd ask some questions about that.

One mechanic that I talked to said that it was just before the point of warning light or stop engine warning from coming on.

Remember who's working on it and what they're putting in it. Every single shop I've been to is all the same...
"If you're not the lowest price, I'm not doing business with you." Repair shops are whore houses when it comes to parts and fluids quality. Sucky sucky fie dolla.

One is near where I live and the other where I work. For many hours of the day, the wife is at the front and the husband is the one and only mechanic. In one case, I can always walk in and talk to the owner/mechanic. He explains the different quality of parts and gives me his opinion on which I should use. I trust his advice on vehicles and repairs.

Well it was the oil filter. The stupid mechanic must of wrench tightened it. This caused the gasket on filter to get squeezed way to much. The gasket then must of blew out causing the oil leak. The oil was down 2 quarts, takes 6 quarts so there should be no engine damage. The shoddy oil change was done at the dealership that I bought truck from new. They were always noted for their excellent mechanical work. They use Mobil 1 synthetic with Dexos rating which is required by GM. It was an AC Delco filter. Monday morning I am going to dealership and the service manager is going to hear some bitching.

^^^^^^^ Should have added that I had to use an 18 inch breaker bar with special filter wrench to get filter off.

Remember when you take a vehicle in for an oil change your not getting a mechanic to do it. It will be the least experienced, newest guy/kid in the shop. Most dealerships hire kids or wannabe mechanics to do lube/oil changes. They pay him a lot less than an certified mechanic. Go to the jiffy lube quick change place's and it gets worse.

The old gasket wasn't still there was it? I have seen that before. Some kid changes the filter and doesn't notice the gasket didn't come off with the filter and then tries to get the new one on and it leaks. So they tighten it some more, and some more. I am NOT a mechanic, I do my own oil changes. But yes, at dealerships your going to get the low guy on the pole that does that job, so he may not be really the one you want, toss in a monday or friday job and lord knows what you may get!

The old gasket still there, was what I thought at 1st but when I pulled the filter there was only one gasket. The guy tightened it so tight it was paper thin and blew out on one side.
