I will have my plots in by tonight on my Otter Tail County farm, total cost, less than $150 for clover and beans. I cheated and got damaged bags for free soybean seed, but otherwise, the clover (from Mo) and the ATV gas, not much expense. I know that is not always the case. A drag, bag spreader and hopefully some rain, and it will be good to go. The boys will help and we should be done by tonight. Some mowing and future fertilizer will add to the cost, but overall reasonable, and small equipment.

How did you till/prep it?

I tilled my 5 acre plot with an ATV for a few years, it was brutal. I would enlist your sons into the ATV work as it will save your back.
Did you add any soil amendments to your costs? Eventually you will have to add those costs. I amend my soil (pretty heavy) every few years and so far that has worked for me.
BLB, are you done planting or next week?

It was easy bean stubble to till.
It's not always this easy.

Oh yeah, i usually spend $1000-2000 a year on various plots, just worked out last years bean stubble, not as expensive.

Worked out a nice little 2 acre alfalfa arrangement with the neighbor. To me that's a huge plus, great food source and no maintenance (they cut).

Small area, not worried about it. Actually hoping he will let me bow hunt part of his 200 acres, he has some nice stuff, and he does not bow hunt. They do rifle hunt 4-5 guys though...not a surprise (where can you go in MN, to get away from the orange army?).
