Found 27 at my place SE this weekend. Took my 8 yr old to a park tonight & we found 10.

We might have another week. Some of the Morels wefound tonight were already dried out.

I've never counted but I'd guess my success rate is 1 in 12 dead elm trees has one or more Morels near them.

Unfortuneately the areas I inhabit are elm free areas..... They do grow around oaks though too, correct?

The only place I've ever found them is near the base of a dead Elm. The best trees still have most of their bark. Elms (even dead ones) are pretty easy to identify once you get the hang of it. The bark is similar to Ash trees with less depth.
I've heard that people find them out West after forest fires but... I can't verify that.

I'm getting the itch to make a burn patch this summer/fall to try to stimulate some morel formation. I just have to find a place where I can pull it off safely.
