Did some flower scouting on the HH parcel and found 3 flowering trees. I don't have the foggy-est idea what they are. I'm gonna go out today and clear around them and mark 'em. Any clue what these are? Here's a shot of the bark. #2 Bark #2 #3

I have flagged a few of them around my place this spring as well. I'm thinking it is Serviceberry based on comparison pics.

Sd- You might watch for an occasional wild plum in the understory. When I worked as a brush cutter on a survey crew in Cass County, we would fin the occasional polum and it would not be in a thicket. I suspect it was Canadian Wild Plum. supposedly it will handle a lower pH.

I went out today and got these trees/bushes freed up to bask in the sun and wrapped in a good shot of crime scene tape. I took the brother's Father in law out to show him what I'd found and done, and we ended up finding more. I also got to work saving some of the unidentified cherry trees in among my oaks. I can't post pics right now. I'll have to do that while I'm not driving home tomorrow.
I hope you guys are right about them being serviceberry. I've had zero luck getting them to grow from bare root. I also couldn't ever get decent planting stock. I think I ended up with about 8 of them, and some are short and likely to keep getting trimmed by the deer. But the taller ones are marked and they're growing a half dozen stems in each clump. I think this also means fruit in June correct? God knows the birds will have them long before I ever see them.

IME, serviceberries produce fruit in June, July, and August. "When" depends on type of serviceberry, amount of sun, and latitude (I think)
