I got my weekly Dr. Woods email this morning. In there, a short blog post about a deer feed with some kind of garlic derivative in it designed to discourage ticks from sucking on deer. Interesting concept. I wonder how they'll balance that approach in a time of CWD and feeding fears? Thankfully, in my part of the country, while ticks are horrendous on people, they don't seem to be impacting deer like they do in other areas. www.growingdeer.tv/view/2017/01/27/controlling-tick-populations/

I talked with Roger Rothhaar several years ago when he moved from Ohio to Iowa. He said the major cause of winter kill there in Iowa was old bucks that were weakened by a long rut that got loaded with ticks. He said the ticks weakened the old bucks so much a lot would winter kill.

Garlic is supposed to repel ticks? I shouldn't get many then, we go through a big jar of minced garlic about once a month around here

Yeah we eat a lot of garlic and I usually get covered in ticks in May and June. Didn't have many this year though.
