I bought a quart of Milestone in order to take out some of my Canadian Thistles. Seems my thistle situation is getting MUCH worse the past year or so. The milestone is not cheap (I paid like $90 / qt) but if it's effective on the thistles......I'm hoping its worth it.
I mowed today....and thistles were everywhere. I plan to now go back and spot spray the thistles with Milestone solution.
I looked at the directions today....and they really didnt have much for small tank mixes of this product. I don't want to use this over large fields....just spot spray our of a small 2 gallon dedicated sprayer.
I wanted to spray them today.....but was confused about how to mix this stuff. So.....Figured I better wait until I had a proper mix to use.
How many OZ per gallon of water? I have some non-ionic surfactant. Should I use it? How much?
Anything else to watch for or tips on using this stuff?

You're not kidding when you say that label is confusing. I've been kicking around the same idea, but that stuff scares me. The rotation restrictions make it sound like most shit won't grow well for a year or more after you spray it. All I could give you is a wild guess based on what I read. I'll hold out hope maybe Mo or someone with experience can chime in.

I did find this much for ya. Looks like you could mix 1 strong oz into a 3 gallon sprayer with 2 oz of NIS. I'm just guessing here, but that's how I read it.
Maybe this isn't such a big deal when you're just spot spraying? fast image hosting

I don't want to shoot the messenger.....but this has me quite confused. The Milestone has OZ markings on the dispenser / bottle and then they come up with MILLELITERS in the instructions??? WTF!!! How can a guy like me understand this chit? I need some SIMPLE instructions to mix up two gallons of stuff to spray the thistles. (OK Rant over )

I stared at that chart for ten minutes trying to make sense out of it. The way I arrived at my math is this. *7 ounces per acre is the high rate for canada thistle. *I used the 20 gallon/acre rate from that chart. *The "per gallon" rate (for 7 oz/ac) is 10.5 mL per gallon. *10.5x3 gallons = 31.5 mL. (30 mL is one oz according to chart conversion) *For NIS: 3 gallon = 384 ounces x .005 = 1.92 oz

I will ask again. Why milestone vs 24d?

Milestone I believe is better at protecting certain Forbs like Plateau . I use 24d most times as it doesn't kill everything like Roundup.

2,4-d doesn't do shit on Canadian thistle IME. I don't even waste my time with straight 2,4-d on lawn weeds.
I use 1/2 oz. Milestone per gallon of water. One thing I'll say is DO NOT USE Milestone in close proximity to desirable broadleafs (including woody species, e.g. apple, lilac, etc.)

We have plumeless thistle for the most part.

I've got plumeless, musk, bull, and Canadian here...and plenty of each. I have no idea why, but the Canadian thistle this year just exploded.

I use clopyralid around my pines.

Phew!.....thanks for that answer (1/2 OZ to gallon of water on Milestone).
So Stu......do you just spot spray the Thistles? That is my plan...... to avoid most other nearby foliage. ......and I assume this is good for Bull Thistles and for Canadians?
I gotta go at this next week or so. I got waaaay too many thistles popping everywhere.
