Just planted 50# field peas and 50# of winter rye. Winter rye will not head out this year, good forage for deer.

How tall will the rye get before winter?

My neighbor and I were discussing winter rye today, as much of my corn did not emerge. He felt planting rye now would make it to coarse to attract our picky deer. (They have alfalfa, clover, and beans within 200 yards.) Probably sweet corn, also.

I watched four different deer come to it and eat for a long time while I was on stand. I actually got stuck in my stand because they were there when it got dark that night. I will say, the deer up by us will eat anything come November.

Keep us updated on your progress. I still find trouble on what to plant on off years of brassicas that attacks as well and will work on a small plot.
