I am lining up a fundraiser/group buy on bare root apple trees for next spring. I want to select a limited number of deer and human trees.
Can you guys please help me put together a selection of deer trees that will stagger the drop? Be a good time to do this with the feed ban looming.

Bailleys?
Chestnut crab for sure. Always need Dolgo just because it is so hardy. You had some pictures of nice dolgo on your old place..Their old list missed some varieties that I would like to see.
Norland is a very cold hardy and early apple. Whitney is not quite as hardy in my view.
A nursery owner contacted Baileys for me and they use dolgo and colombia for rootstock. Colombia is not very edible for humans, but is a great late dropping crab with good disease resistance. I was considering trying to get some colombia rootsotck from them.
Do they have Kerr?

My guess at order of drop times. Norland, whitney, state fair, dolgo(all in a few days about Labor Day), Chestnut (most of the month of September), ,Haralson and haralred, Kerr crab, colombia (into late October and later.).
I may have a better feeling on Kerr and wickson after this fall.

Where are you buying from that'll help with selection... I have an account with Baileys and last time around we were buying $30 trees for $10. Likely be selling them for $22 or there about. Anyone that helps with distribution gets them at cost.

Keep in mind that MBI probably has members from every area of the state. What'll do well in International Falls and Marshall differ greatly.
I'd focus on disease resistant trees. Liberty, Enterprise, Pristine, Wolf River, Redfree, William's Pride, Goldrush...that'd cover Early-mid August through December (or later). Few of those will do well way up north though (Wolf River probably would)

Pristine Freedom Liberty Galarina
Chestnut Crab - pollinator
Listed in order of drop time(s). All the apples are considered top in class for disease resistance. All are decent for human consumption. All are Zone 4a hardy, not sure if they are capable of growing in Zone 3.

Good disease resistant substitutions: Williams Pride - early September Redfree - Mid September Haralson - Mid October Enterprise - Late October/early November

Anywhere cedars exist Goldrush will get hit with CAR. They also require a longer growing season than most of MN offers. That said, there'll be some fruit hanging on the trees well after the New Year.
I wouldn't plant one here, they wouldn't survive a bad winter. Liberty will likely suffer damage here during a "test winter" as will Enterprise, Pristine, William's Pride and Redfree. From the Cities south I'd plant most any variety a guy wants. From St. Cloud north..it becomes a bit of a crap shoot on many regular apple varieties.
The local nurseries here (Bailey's trees) don't carry any of the DR varieties I mentioned (Freedom and Galarina neither)

Chestnut crab, Haralson and Liberty... those three I've had survive, thrive.

Be a good time to do this with the feed ban looming. Genius. That would be fun to market. "Don't let the DNR starve your deer. Join the MBI big apple tree buy."
