So my Gander is going out of business and I didn't even know it. I was going to pick up a bag of WI winter greens but they are all out of all their seeds. The only thing I can find in a 50 mile radius is PTT. I have to plant this weekend. I have never planted them before but I see them listed all the time. I have 1/2 acre to plant that is buckwheat now. I was going to disc it in with urea and spread the seed. Should I add any other seed in with it it? How big do the leaves get?

I prefer a brassica mix, but have planted straight ptt plots in the past. Leaves can get quite large, as can the bulbs, when planted at the appropriate rate (more is not better with brassicas) in decent soil and fertilized appropriately.

I definitely lack the ability to not overseer brassica. I just can't help myself. I think I will throw some buckwheat in as well. Have you ever broadcast brassicas into clover? I mowed the clover last weekend so I might give it a shot, suppose to get some heavy rain this weekend.

I've been messing around with an idea for awhile now...spray clover with 1.5 qts/acre of glyphosate in late June/early July and then broadcast brassicas into the suppressed clover. If a guy could time that with a heavy rain, I think it may lead to a nice plot of clover and brassicas with very few summer annual weeds. Not sure if I'm brave enough to try it yet this year though

Or then I try and cut back and I miss spots entirely. I can't win.

I'm gonna test it out with the yellow sweet clover and I may blow some brassica into sunny parts of the clover trails for shits and giggles. I've got ten pounds of yellow sweet to blow onto my grassy corner out front. I'm really hoping this thing ends the saga of too thick/too thin brassica seeding.

Most of my Brassica plots are put into existing clover plots. I spray gly here and there. Wait a day. Then we partially disk the clover under. It seems to suppress the clover to get the Brassicas started if it rains well. The Brassicas fill in and the clover is here and there. The nitrogen from the clover seems to help them grow well too. Then the clover fills back in for the next spring.

I tried this approach this past weekend. I'll take some pics if it turns out.

I started doing it this way because a few years ago I didn't get rain for the month of July and the Brassicas mostly failed. I figure the clover will give them some food if the happens because I know it'll bounce back. The problem I have is my clover goes dormant after a few frosts. If the Brassicas don't take then my does leave for November. how to upload photos from
