No direct experience with doing what you are, but around here any red cedar is a target for rubbing and scraping. I imagine that's due to there not being a lot of them and the strong aroma given off by the wood.

My deer like to rub cedar, but licking branches are usually oak.

I used oak on my Ward scrape "lines" and they worked great. Held the leaves all season.

Looks like a great setup! I bet once a little scent gets on it they start to use it all the time!

Great idea. I could see that making for a nice ambush spot.
Pretty simple and not allot of work, I like that.

I was inspired by this thread to do something similar at my place. It was a great project to have the boys help me with. I had them cutting branches and handing me zip ties. Used mainly Oak with some Maple and Basswood. My oldest decided he wanted to be the first one to leave his mark. Will be interesting to see how they get used at my place.

Damn it! Now I got something else I need to try!! I have seen Jim's work first hand and this "trick" of his as well. You even hear him in the video refer to him being in Indiana. I have to go check a cam card anyway so I might as well do something constructive while I'm there.

Well you guys got me up off my ass today....... Tried a few different things to see if any one worked better than the others or if a particular location seemed to be favored. Some I did like Jim shows, some I simply used a piece of grapevine (don't remember where I saw that) and some I simply used some 550 cord to pull down some branches. We will see if any of these work. I don't have much scrape activity on my place, but we will see if these make any difference.

Best luck I have had with the lick branches/scrapes was on the end of blockades. I want the bucks there and it gives them 1 more reason to use the spot. I never had luck with scrape trees in food plots. My digs had the bucks using the thicker areas and the scrapes on blockades fit the bill.
