Just an update on the crabapple I call Pillsbury...it is now pretty much devoid of fruit. About a week ago it was still holding a fair amount of fruit. I'm guessing birds/turkeys got a bunch of the fruit since the last time I drove past.

Did some of the winds we had blow some of the fruit off?

I assume the heavy winds knocked some fruit off, but I cannot 100% confirm that as I didn't get out of the truck to check edit - I should have added that the tree in town I call LP VFW (which is likely either a Trailman or Shafer crab) was still holding a couple dozen apples earlier this week. I'm hoping my grafts of that tree take this year.

Resurrecting this old thread. I grabbed a handful of crabs off of the LP VFW crab today. This is at least the 4th year in a row that tree has had a good crop, so it's obviously an annual bearer. The fruit is at least a week from being ripe, probably more like two. The fruit was edible today, but still pretty tart. The seeds were mainly white still. I do have my own tree of this variety growing now, so hopefully it will do well here.

Art - I didn't look super close today, but upon casual glance I noticed zero CAR or scab lesions. The fruit did have some insect damage, but several of the fruit I grabbed were pretty clean. I'd think a spray or two of insecticide would give you pretty much clean fruit.

I still have Whitney crabs hanging and they still aren't completely ripe. There must be two crabs called "Whitney" if some of them are ripe and dropping in July/early August.
