MO What rate did you plant those brassicas? I cant remember, but I bet it was at least 10lbs per acre.

I looked for pictures but couldn't find any. I think I went ten pounds to the acre. It was tough spreading it I remember. I kind of help the solo spreader up as high as I could where the corn was high. It came in spindly and crummy at first but once the corn dried down a bit it filled in nicely. I would think 36" rows would make it easier?

Another note, my rows lie east/west. I would assume better growth with north/south facing rows.

Is anyone out there planting cover crops into corn at V7 stage and seeing any success or having any major hits on yield? I am thinking about doing this exact thing this evening prior to a potential rain tomorrow. Looking at red or crimson clover and ptt. We have 36 in rows so thinking as much about weed suppression as feeding the deer. Why plant at V7, are you trying to get them down before they start to canopy?
On my sandy soil even WR is touch and go with Germination. Unless I have seed to soil contact my germination is poor. I typically stick with WR, broadcast when beans start to yellow and hope for rain.
I have about an 6' strip between my corn and soybeans that I plan to till and plant with brassica most likely the end of July.

Some of the recent research from the U suggest seeding at v7 or slight later while you can still seed and then it will germinate and lay dormant and pop once the leave start to fall as the corn matures

I did get talked into going with around 4 lbs per acre of rape and ppt from local seed dealer...I usually seed it heavier.

What was his reasoning for going so light?

I ended up actually putting down about 8 lbs per cart Seed dealer thought any heavier might steal N from the corn.
If I had more time I should have tried various rates in strips.

I opted to not spread brassicas in my corn and beans. I just dont have clean enough rows. Tried it many times and came to my senses. Its not gonna work unless its PERFECT conditions.
Anyone need seed? LOL. I got 25 lbs of a custom mix from RJ Hunt 2 weeks ago. PTT, Radish, DER. I used about 5 lbs in a clean plot.
