Is anyone out there planting cover crops into corn at V7 stage and seeing any success or having any major hits on yield? I am thinking about doing this exact thing this evening prior to a potential rain tomorrow. Looking at red or crimson clover and ptt. We have 36 in rows so thinking as much about weed suppression as feeding the deer.

I did it on 30" rows two years ago with Vivant brassica and had good luck! Am planning on doing it with some brassica again here soon!

I love those pics Mo. I remember them very clearly from the past year or two. We had some luck on our side that year. It was kind of a drought for 2 months, but we seeded the end of July anyways. 1st of August we got a 5" rain to pound the brassica seeds in the ground. And it rained every week after that. They exploded!

We usually just use whirlybird seeders sometimes if seeds are larger we use 3 PT spreader

I've been working towards beans/brassica for a while and haven't been able to pull it off yet. Even next year is a long shot, but I'll keep working at it. I just want to see something standing mature/dead with brassicas growing in it. Part of my plan next year is to spend the money on a bag of the beans I want, a group 00 soybean. That all hinges on getting the plots demo'd this year, and getting in to mow or roll the rye in due time next spring. Even then, I don't know if 00 beans will finish up in enough time (or survive browsing for that matter) to let the brassicas grow. That's also where the WGF sorghum comes in as well. That'll be part of it.
