I've been I trees that were so small I couldn't shift my weight without the tree moving around. I don't like hunting that way but sometimes you have to give it a try.
I'm thinking your or tree is bigger than that.
The answer may also depend on your size. I'm not a small person at 235.
Wear a safety belt!

I've done hang on stands in trees that were 5" at the base, 4" where I hung. I was also 25 pounds smaller, 15 years younger, and invincible. I put Omaha Steve in that stand once. He looked like a gorilla perched on a milk crate.

Is that a maple? If so you should be fine. As Reagan said smaller trees can sway a lot in the wind. Poplar, balsam, and birch will a lot. I'd stay away from them. Maple are better oak would be your best one to use if you don't want swaying. I like ladder stands much more than hang ons.

what would a ladder stand give off? A hang on you still need ladder stix, or pegs to get up.
I have pics of deer walking by tractors, box blinds, etc.
I have had deer walk up and sniff my ladder.
That deer caught something else is my guess.

There aren't many places by me where you can safely get much higher than 15' in a climber. But there are some basswoods I can get up 20+ if the winds are right. Nobody knows you're up there if you can get in quietly. That is a special sit. Just don't have those trees in the right spots, so it's usually one of the last sits of the year.

Short answer "yes". I sit in hang-on stands far more than ladders or climbers. I prefer 18-20ft heights where possible. If it's a spot you think will be permenant, I recommend large hooks. They make for the quietest climb/descent.

If your up there and the tree comes down you'll know the answer. That size should be no problem unless you got some really small hands. I like 20 to 25 feet up.

I say yes. Wear your harness while hanging said stand.
