sorry I can't help, all I've ever done a 50/50 mix with clover. I like that mix. The two of them co-exist well together at that rate? I've mixed a bit of chicory with clover before, but never a high percentage.

I love to mix chicory with a perennial clover plot. I know of some 100% chicory plots Jim Ward has planted (here in IN). In my area there seems to be a magical time in the fall when something changes in the chicory that the deer can detect and they just hammer it. They will eat it all summer long, but for some reason come late fall here I can have big leaves of chicory easily seen and then wham! In a matter of days you would never know it was there! I don't know if it is some sort of change in the plant or what, but it happens every year. Only issue I have with chicory mixed with clover is it handcuffs your herbicide choices....to none as far as a broadleaf is concerned. I have never mixed at 50/50. I have considered a 100% plot before, but I don;t see why - the chicory likes the N from the clover as I understand it. But I could see a heavier chicory % for a archery stand for sure in my area.

I intend to do a straight chicory plot in one of my yard plots next yr. The deer and my wife likes it so it's a win/win. As for now I have it mixed with clover.

I had a 1/2 acre plot of chioryt a few years ago. It really paid off when we had a drought. The deer mined the chicory that fall. The next year they pretty much left it alone.
Not sure what got into me..... but I killed that plot to plant some sugar beets......and the SB were a bust. Dumb.
My deer like chicory.

I can see why the deer like chicory. I tried some and it was delicious. I have mine mixed with clover but I might plant more and cut it for salads.

I'm thinking of going 75/25 chicory/ clover next year.

My experiences are about like foggy’s. It got used a bit in a drought. Sugar beets were a waste of time.

Whether the chicory gets used or not isn't really a question I'd have. On all 3 properties I've grown it, it has been consumed readily by deer.
I don't think I want to mess around with alfalfa on the house plot next year, so I'm going through ideas of what else I could plant (besides just more clover, which I have plenty of)

I have a plot with alfalfa, red clover and chicory and I think chicory is honestly best by itself. When I would mow the plot in the dry summer the chicory would bounce back faster than the others and flower. They never were timed well with each other until fall. I think chicory is well suited for smaller wood plots especially sandier soils.

I've done some small plots of chicory. The deer in my area ate it readily until it was gone. I know its an expensive seed but I have had the best luck treating it as a spring planted annual.

5 lbs. of Six point chicory from Hancock Seed arrived Saturday. I plan to frost seed a bunch into my existing clover plots and see what happens. Deer here really like chicory from late summer until freeze up

The guy on the other side of the mountain has a straight chicory plot and he said the deer hammer it all summer long.

Most food plotters are to cheap to spend the $6/lb for Chicory when clover is $2......
