16 more days of scoped muzzy season ahead to further decimate the herd. This isn't a primitive weapon season anymore, time to start limiting some opportunity. 32 days of gun hunting in this state.

I agree completely...but it'll never happen. I'm ready to agree to reducing the length of season for every weapon

Agree Stu--doubt it will happen, but if it does, all weapons, archery too. The next thing coming will be crossbows!

It won't happen because all MDHA and the DNR cares about is hunter opportunity If hunter opportunity for some is sitting on public land (which has already been grazed by cattle in my area) hoping to see a deer, good luck.

Hunter opportunity is giving every hunter every chance possible to harvest a deer and put some venison in the freezer. That is what too large of a % of MN hunters are.

Well harvest is up 16% overall. The percentage of bucks shot is down. So the herd is the same size. 2017 buck harvest is 85.4k to date 2016 buck harvest was 85.2k to date Damn they manage well. Assuming the DNR's numbers are somewhat accurate... Buck kill is pretty much static. Overall kill is up because of more liberal antlerless tag allocation....Don't those two sets of numbers add up to a significantly smaller herd next year? If we don't get to 190K for a kill this year and the herd is smaller next year...we're likely to never see a kill hit 190K at any time.

How will the extermination program after cwd expands change the harvest? Up for awhile, then down forever?

We are at record license sales, approaching 600,000 licenses/permits sold in this state? MN DNR is doing a great job selling the opportunity, not very good at delivering the actual product! What a scam!
We shot more deer 15/20 years ago at 400,000 licenses sold. As I said, what a scam!

This is from 2 years ago from my area of 157. I don't see any increase in DPSM. And harvest numbers are not that good. So how long does their increase in DPSM take? Is it truely 3-5 years? Got this all from the DNR's interactive map.http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/mammals/deer/management/population.html

But each of us might look at only one small area of each block.

I wonder if the DNR factors in that a certain percentage (?) of deer never get registered. I bet it's 10%. Local sporting goods guy has told me he thinks it's higher than 10%. People admit it ??

I think the un-registered deer kill may far exceed 10%...and that many of those un-registered deer are taken outside of any deer season (like all year long)

I think its one of the top 10 tickets the DNR hands out is unregistered deer. Has to be a pile of them not caught!
