My sister, nephew, and I are escaping to Florida next Friday for a week to visit our parents. Looks like it’ll be good timing. Coldest weather of the year on tap when we’re gone.

Got rained out from golf today. Likely 1/10" of rain and windy.....temps never got over low 60's. Had a cocktail party on my patio instead.....and had to fire up the fireplace to keep the chill off. Ruff life here in OZ. FORE! Here’s Foggy and his neighbors from the Midwest discussing the weather.

I'll take this upper 20's weather every day. All week I look forward to my weekend saw and brush pile time and this weather is perfect for that.

I would really, really miss chain saw time. I can see skipping a month of habitat work, but much more than that and I might lose my mind. Chain saw time is more enjoyable than actually hunting to me.

There is something about running the chain saw that has always appealed to me. It is getting harder to spend more than a couple of hours at it, as my back and carpal tunnels act up. One tank of gas is less than an hour and just about right for me. I guess I am ten years ahead of you and foggy is almost ten years ahead of me...

I can do 5-6 tanks in my little Stihls though. 95% or more of my saw time is with the Stihls. I fire up the Husky for big aspens, that's about it. I can envision the day when a tank or two in the Stihls is enough, but I hope that isn't for another 20 years or so.

I may run two tanks of gas thru my chainsaw in a year.....mostly for birch firewood.

At some point, I will end up pretty much "making over" the vast majority of my property. My back and arms, and chain saws will be the tools that got that done.

I wish I had the energy for some of those projects I once had. I am losing not only the ability to do these things.....but the desire to go after the tough work. Huge change from the time I bought the land to what I am now willing to do. Glad I got the big projects done when I did......as they ain't gonna happen anymore without the right labor plan in place. I may do some light excavating for fun and cut some firewood for exercise......but a big project is out. FORE! I am happy with my ability to nicely maintain what I got. I suppose ten or twenty years from now the piece will need some overhauling.....but currently it's in pretty fair shape for my purposes.
