For those keeping score in AZ and FL...actual temp here at TT right now...-22F. F*UCK IS IT COLD OUT! If it makes you feel any better, it's sprinkling right now and did so yesterday off and on for a little while. It only got to 78 yesterday too You sure made the right choices for a winter break this year.

At that time, VRBO bookings were way down so we got it at a reduced price. Had we known this time period was going to be the coldest of the year at home, we would have paid a bunch more just to get out of there. The wife is already talking about booking for a month next year. I'm still not completely sold on the idea, but may get there

-27 on my thermometer under our porch roof. -34 or 35 on the exposed thermometer.
I left the dog out of the kennel and she came in laundry room to drink water and eat breakfast.

I can stand outside and hear the bark pop on trees. Contrary to that, I hear crows with a spring call to their voice. By the end of the week, I expect blue jays to be clucking. I am not sure if clucking is the proper word, but they have a different spring call, also.

Both weather sites I follow for L.P. say -24

My parents booked January and February this year. I think they wrangled an extra week out of it. I’m trying to convince them to do December thru March. Haha. My mom found one nearby for next year with a pool in Rotunda West. I said book it! One of only a few that allows pets. Plus the first few months of the year seem to be the busiest as far as rentals go. December was open all over and cheaper.

Yes, December is usually wide open. January can be cold by FL standards. We were here last year in late January and it didn't get much above 70. If I was going to book a month, it would be February. Many places give a substantial discount when booking by the month. A private pool is mandatory for us. Costs a few more bucks but who cares. You could rent a huge, beautiful place on the beach for the month of July for dirt cheap. Not that I want to be in FL in July though...

They’ve beached it a few times. Take the dog on hikes where they can. Anything is better than this shit weather.

How is the fishing in the gulf during Winter? No idea but we want to try a half day charter next winter when we go down.

The fishing in the gulf is allegedly great in the winter. I've never gone, but there are plenty of charters running. If we spend a month here, I'll likely do a few charters at some point.
Right now, I'm trying to talk the wife into a VRBO inland somewhere. Stay within an hour or 90 minutes of the gulf, but rent a place on a lake. I could fish off the pier for bass and panfish a few hours a day. Have a fire at night. Swim in the pool. Go to the beach a few times a week. Drink Juengling

I just cut some browse trees down for the deer in 13 degree weather and was in a full sweat. I’ll take that over ticks and mosquitoes any day.
We’re due for about 18” of snow this week over 4 days. I hope we have a warm up without rain next week.

I've had several friends who regularly winter vacation in the gulf (Texas). They always look forward to the fishing. Spearing flounder is popular with them. Sounds like fun to me anyway.

Talking with the neighbor it sounds like there are gills and tilapia and maybe some bass. No need to go 90 minutes inland for that! I thought 90 minutes off the gulf was basically the Atlantic.
