Seems the ducks and geese in OZ just stay here all year round now......more and more. There are many that just dont migrate. Lots of Honkers, Mallards, Pintails, Widgeons and Cormorants. Guess they just said the hell with migrating....when there is warm weather here. Not sure if some go to the high ountrry in August?

I saw shovellers, buffleheads, probably ring bills( we used to call them blue bills). Also more mallards than usual and always a few woodies. I quit hunting ducks after the last year we could use lead shot. Ring bills and blue bills are two different species.

Ducks are cool. All I ever see are Mallards. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough. I'm going to go into hardcore bird watching when I live at the farm and have an unimpeded view of the cattails all day. I think I'll have a chair, with a little end table next to it, with a bird book, a good set of binoculars, and a notebook. I'm gonna be an old, grumpy, bird watching fart, and I'll say things like, "Look at all those Butter Butts" or "A gashawk flew by and turned off the Sandhill Cranes."

Ringnecks, ringers, ringbills. Bluebill, scaup. Shot a lot of Bluebills yesteryear, but never got an absolute mature fully colored 'Bill. God they are a pretty duck when the sun hits their heads the right way. PS - Dont forget there are Greater and Lesser Scaups. 2 different Bluebill species. I dont believe we ever shot any Greaters.

I can remember my Dad telling me that northern bills had ccanvas on their back. Was that the greater? We pretty much called the blue bills with an occasional, late season golden eye mixed in.
