1.5 here in Big Lake today! Wish I got the fertilizer on the yard. I threw out about 20 pounds of white Dutch clover yesterday right before the storm. It should take off once it warms up again.

It only had a couple apples last year. I think they drop early like August?? I’m fine with that. It’s up hill from my new orchard. If they hit this tree early it will train them for my later varieties. They may have been a little smaller than a golf ball but big enough for deer. I found it last year when it bloomed. I cleaned up some competition and it seems to have responded with a lot more blooms. Nice tree Reagan. It should have a lot more apples this year if you don’t get a late frost. Is that one you cleared around and opened it up last year? Yes. I think I found 4-5 wild crabs last year. Some have been grafted a few have not. I think this tree will be bloomed and finished before any other tree blooms. It is also looking like a late frost isn’t going to happen. If that is the case this will be the first time in 3 years my chestnuts don’t get zapped.

They say to not plant your garden until Mother’s Day. Seems a May frost is very rare here.
The last few years the chestnuts got zapped in late April. We will see some mid 30s next week. Hopefully the frost stays away.

Temps are getting into the mid-90's now. Gotta work on staying hydrated and cool. Early tomorrow morning we got 4 Jeeps taking a route called "the back way to Crown King". It's a mining town / ghost town about 5500 feet in elevation and makes for an iconic Jeep ride. It's one of Jeeps "Badge of Honor" Trails.....as it may test your skills in places. That trip has been on my bucket list for a long time. 4 Jeeps / couples from MN and OZ are making the trip. Adventure!

Windchill in the teens in April sucks. However, temps in the 90s in April also doesn't sound like anything I'd want.
Sun, light wind, and upper 50s to upper 60s...that's what I'd like in April

The warm weather a month ago had me worried the fruit trees would grow far too soon, but these cold temps certainly help slow that down a bit. It certainly is miserable weather for working outside, turkey hunting or fishing.

That kind of heat for that much of the year isn't for me. I'm not sure there's anywhere in the U.S. I could move to and be happy with the weather most of the time.

I'm not sure there's anywhere in the U.S. I could move to and be happy with the weather most of the time. I would be pretty happy if every winter was like this one. I'm guessing the winter weather we had this year is what southern Iowa or northern Missouri has most years. I could certainly get used to that type of weather provided the summer weather isn't unbearably hot.
