Holy shit...been waiting until 6ish in the evening to mow one section by the Wiccan neighbor. The fucking deer flies were unreal. Swollen hands from 10 bazillion bites. I mowed that piece one week ago exactly. I lifted the deck to 3.5 then. I left it there today. I could bale the clippings. I'm sick of mowing Zero bites today. I got run outta the woods two weeks ago and then I ordered the shit. You should paint your helmet red & blue. Do you remember when I did that 5 or 6 years ago shit may even have been longer than that. Damn thing like red and blue for some reason.

^ Yep, blue is the color that draws them. I never wear blue clothes on the golf course this time of year for that very reason. The course puts tangle foot on blue Solo cups and places them on sticks in the woods (near the greens) to collect deer flies. Works quite well.

I cannot get over the huge YOY change in rainfall. Have hardly done a rain dance all year....just one time it seemed to be getting dry. Weekly rainfalls are common. Not sure I have had as good of a season for moisture (knock on wood).

Not sure I have had as good of a season for moisture (knock on wood). we had a dry period which hurt some light soils. The spring seeded alfalfa on my place is looking better after the third cutting. Small patches of turnips are sprouting.

friend by Villard south of Alex is at 5 inches I am at almost 2 inches in Big Lake.
My sons basement flooded a couple months ago, its in rebuild process, today the contractor said the east wall was damp.... A huge pool of water was by the front door, so he had to dig 2 trenches out into the yard to divert water.
Cant even think of a summer close to this maybe ever. We are in the heart of the hot and dry season and it just wont slow down.

The farmer renting my wisconsin tillable land finally planted his alfalfa clover mix last weekend. Or at least he said he planted half the field, but I'm still not going to believe it until I see it. This guy is on multiple state boards including some ag related and seems to be a decent guy, but he is the worst farmer I've ever seen. He can't seem to figure out how to get things done, but he always has a long list of excuses. I turned down higher offers per acre to go with guy since he sounded and looked on paper like a good farmer. But he sucks. Last year was his first year renting my place and he planted his alfalfa in early September, so I had no food on my place and the hunting sucked. Then the alfalfa died over winter and this year he couldn't get around to planting it until last weekend. Maybe he'll make a bale of hay out there on his third growing season renting it.

1.2" of rain yesterday in SE MN, which is perfect. My soybeans are finally starting getting ahead of the browsing pressure and the pods are forming fast. August rain has been hard to come by the last few years, so I'm hoping this gives me a solid stand of soybeans this year.

I had a farm client who was the head man for one of the farm organizations in our state. His place was a complete dump, yet he said how bad farming was when talking to the media. He had a lame cow and when I finally caught her, she was in a pen with a board and nails sticking up through the manure. I almost stepped on it and pointed it out to the farmers sons. Months later, I had a lame cow in the pen. The board with nails was still there. I lost all respect for that farm organization.
