With all the good stories of success, there is always the stories that just infuriate a guy.
1. My friend talked to a lady at Fleet in Alexandria yesterday. Her party of 8 has 12 deer hanging. they hunt near Long Prairie. As Stu knows well, 3 deer per person limit. They are going full bore at it again this weekend to add to the meat pole. How much of that meat will be tossed in the trash next October when the new season is upon them?
2. I talked to a guy yesterday at happy hour. His son is up north at their land with one other guy. His son just shot his 5th deer, to fill out all the tags of the group. The guy clearly told me, "I was going to go up tomorrow to hunt, but my son filled my tag today so I am just going up to collect deer and close up camp tomorrow." Fucking absentee hunter tag filled. I just want to call a CO in front of all these D bags when I hear this stuff. It is SOOOOO common. And he was just happy as a lark and honestly I am certain he thinks what they did is totally legal. I bit my tongue. I just dont like to start fights. But blood pressure sure goes up.

Yep
I just had a conversation with a group that hunts 40 acres in Pope County. They all bought regular tags and bonus tags. 7 hunters. Then they just told me, we didn't see much, sucks that we cannot fill our tags...LOL

Call the CO... why wouldn't you? CO won't do much on hearsay. Pretty much gotta catch people in the act to prosecute.

Around here it seems people bring their old, freezer burnt venison/venison products to the "potluck" at Thunder Lodge for Viking's half time. Wish they'd just throw the shit out instead of trying to feed it to a bunch of unsuspecting people

I like having one tag instead of this bonus tag deals. I also see less of the illegal party hunting, but most of the hunters I know are mature... maybe I should say old.

One year of H.C. here, other than that always Managed or Intensive. I think I'm ready to support a one deer of either sex using any weapon season.

Even if the DNR eliminated cross-tagging, it would do very little to curb the kill until they get rid of electronic registration, and make hunters bring their carcasses in for registration again. IMHO

I think the buck cross tagging ban in SE MN has helped. It's not perfect, but before the rule lots of people openly talked about tagging bucks for people who weren't even hunting because they thought it was normal/legal. Poachers will still do things like that, but the majority of the hunters follow the rules. I think people value their buck tag a bit more knowing once it's filled they have to wait a year to shoot another one.

Never an aerial survey since the unit has existed....but Beau "knows" that there's enough deer here to warrant Intensive

Good for one buck with any weapon. Was party hunting for bucks allowed with this license?
