How far can wolves travel? Wolves may travel 10 to 30 miles each day in search of food. Dispersing wolves, those leaving packs in search of their own mate, have been known to travel distances of 550 miles away form their home territory. I find that amazing Yet rarely hit by vehicle, or on trail cam.

The google told me that. Seems a bit lofty on numbers. Who knows.

A beagle on a good day of running rabbits can travel 16-18 miles. Double that for a wolf and that sounds reasonable to me.
They have shown up in states far from where they are supposed to be. Haven’t some been road killed in Colorado?

One wolf left my area SE of Camp Ripley and took a big trip through central Wisconsin. In about a year he was back near here at home. This is documented in a book by Mech from early 2000’s.

One wolf left my area SE of Camp Ripley and took a big trip through central Wisconsin. In about a year he was back near here at home. This is documented in a book by Mech from early 2000’s. The book was titled Howl in the Heartland and it had a map of the wolf’s movement. It could have been male or female. Consider how wolves, crows, or eagles that feed on an infected cwd carcass could travel miles and poop out the prions.
