Let me ask you guys this. after seeing some of the comments of guys seeing hardly anything, why do you continue to do it year after year? Is it because we as hunters get set in our ways we don't like change, no matter how shitty the hunting is?

This is where most of our livelihood’s exist. This is where most of us have already invested blood sweat n tears.

And I truly thought it was going to get better with all the land improvements and hunting strategies. Neighbors and baiting have had too much influence over anything I have done.

Making bedding areas, food plot & thick nasty shit it has improved. Getting better every year. It may never produce what your seeing MO but I have taken bucks every year for the past 3. The only one allowed to take a a doe is the wife. It's a labor of love on the property and hunting is the enjoyment of that labor.

Maybe your right, we just like doing all the work more than the hunting part. I guess that's it for me as well. I really am a terrible hunter, but I do enjoy filming what is now calling our land home.

I understand the anger and dismay many of you experience. Seeing a couple deer a year after investing in land, food, & habitat has gotta be frustrating to say the least.

Is it because we as hunters get set in our ways we don't like change, no matter how shitty the hunting is? Because I'm a bullheaded SOB. If I think I can do something, it takes a lot of beating my head against the wall (and work) until I admit I was wrong. I have made improvements here, no doubt. SIL took a 150"+ last year and I choked on shooting a buck that may have scored that high or higher this year from the same stand. This will never come close to what you have in MO, but I knew that going in. What I wanted was a legitimate chance to shoot a shoulder mount worthy (subjective I know) buck every year. We'll see if that possibility continues to occur.

Is it because we as hunters get set in our ways we don't like change, no matter how shitty the hunting is? I refused to continue the circle. I read and did everything I could and then punted on parcels near Onamia. Bye bye - it was only dirt and swamp to me. Walked 51 pieces and found a place with a lot of deer to play with instead. Its not Missourri but its not 7 hours away.

Its not Missourri but its not 7 hours away. After hunting many areas of the west......I decided to do much like Batman says above. I just want a local place to do a little playing and target shooting.....and a place for my family to gather and learn about deer hunting. Not the best in the nation.....but we have a little fun and work to make it better. Also, it gets me out of the house and give me some projects to plan and work on (I like operating 'chinery sometimes.) If I want to do a trophy hunt.....I'd go somewhere else. I got a brand new four line highway from my home to my "deertopia" - and its only 15 minutes away. Just right.

Well I will do you guys a favor and never invite you down here hunting, for fear of you might go back home, sit in your stands, and blow your brains out. I will keep posting some pics and videos if you want? I am only posting for your enjoyment, I am not trying to rub it in your faces. Just hoping you can get some fun out of them like I do.

I have hunted some of the best deer lands in the country but the travel portion now queers the deal for me. I simply adjusted my expectations. Its working so far.

I am really lucky to have the house down here. To have comfortable accommodations when you get here is the key. A 6.5 hour drive really isn't that bad to me. But then in season I may stay for weeks.

I like the idea of walking across my yard and getting on a deer stand that is heated, with s roof , and windows. Even a quarter mile walk to a ladder stand is ok at this age. Many of us put too much emphasis on antlers. I was going to say racks. Fun to look at and talk about and not the whole story.
