Its all over the whitetails range. Except Texas. Seems incompetence is rampant.

I wish the government luck when in 25 years hunter numbers are going tits up and there arent enough people to shoot deer and this all backfires on them.
there will be a tipping point.

Personally, I think the governments' goal is to get and keep deer herds at sizes that remain easily manageable for the existing hunter numbers. They'll continue to reduce herd sizes as low as they can while not losing too many hunters annually. Get and keep herds low enough so that if/when the government has to deal with them it's easy enough to do with bait piles/helicopters/sharp shooters.

I just back from Sawyer county, very few shots in our area and the hunters I talked to were not seeing deer. I have not hunted that area very much but it consist of an ocean of thick Aspen and Tamarack swamps. One general comment was there are allot of wolves around. We did stop at a local bar called the Wannigan and the owner was provided 60 doe tags to provide to hunters (you just have to fill out the forms). This was to reduce forest depredation. Seems there are special programs out there nobody knows about. The owners name is Greg. www.wannigan.info/

Pretty sure that's been going on around here for awhile. Does it give you any peace of mind that the herd may be sliding into the gutter in Wisconsin?

I believe all states will have to address the sacred cow--gun hunting. We just keep adding seasons. Wisconsin has done that too, and added more rifle days correct? With box stands/rifles and food plots, hunting has changed.
I can think back to when I was young in MN. I rarely remember a comfortable box stand? Now every guy has one or more, including myself, very accurate weapons, heaters in the blind. Bring the food with!
MN Muzzy will be another clown show now that we have scopes. The local sportings good manager (Russ) at Kruger Farms has been so busy putting scopes on muzzleloaders, he said he has had no time for anything else. Everybody and their brother will be out.
It is bad, we may have to do what SD and ND do, and limit gun tags to a draw. Are we at that point, in MN/Wisc maybe not yet, but I bet in 5 years, hunter satisfaction will be down again.

^^^you're making the assumption that our DNRs will give enough of a shit to allow deer herds to grow in order to keep hunters happy/buying licenses.
I'm not sure that's gonna happen

^^^you're making the assumption that our DNRs will give enough of a shit to allow deer herds to grow in order to keep hunters happy/buying licenses. I'm not sure that's gonna happen To grow is one thing, decimate the herd is another. I mean seriously you can hunt 25 days with a shotgun and scope or muzzy and scope right now if you want in MN. Just about every guy I know has a Savage 220 with a lifetime warranty scope right now (including myself). I rarely use it, rather bow hunt. Muzzy hunting is now the same as single shot rifle. I foresee issues down the road. Fact is either we need fewer hunters, or considerably lower the amount of deer tags available, and I bet Wisconsin will be in that boat too.
