I believe all states will have to address the sacred cow--gun hunting. We just keep adding seasons. Wisconsin has done that too, and added more rifle days correct? With box stands/rifles and food plots, hunting has changed. I can think back to when I was young in MN. I rarely remember a comfortable box stand? Now every guy has one or more, including myself, very accurate weapons, heaters in the blind. Bring the food with! MN Muzzy will be another clown show now that we have scopes. The local sportings good manager (Russ) at Kruger Farms has been so busy putting scopes on muzzleloaders, he said he has had no time for anything else. Everybody and their brother will be out. It is bad, we may have to do what SD and ND do, and limit gun tags to a draw. Are we at that point, in MN/Wisc maybe not yet, but I bet in 5 years, hunter satisfaction will be down again. Muzzy hunting has me worried about its effect on the deer herd and poaching. This year I had a neighbor driving slowly by my place on two different occasion, I'm certain he was road hunting. I'm still trying to decide what steps I can take to make certain nobody hunts my place. Scopes are a terrible idea and It puts to much pressure on the herd.

We'd be up to our ears in huge deer if we'd just pump the brakes on unlimited buck tags. South Dakota can grow more monsters in a square mile with no habitat than a completely wooded township in MN. I've seen it.

I hate to say it...but there's nothing an absentee owner can do to make certain nobody hunts their property. Daily physical presence is the only real deterrent.

I just had a retired superintendent stop in my office and ask to hunt my 82 acres. In the past I let him hunt once in awhile, but this year, I told him no. We have seen so few deer after the gun season, the neighbors shot every buck we were after, and a bunch of does--totally depressing.
Up until November 4 I was super excited about that property, now, literally wiped them all out. In one week we had (9) trail cam pics on a trail leading to a nice corn plot. Prior to gun season we would have 200-300 pics on that camera in a week.

I would be willing to bet that the actual harvest was much higher. No need to buy license and no need to register if you shoot a deer.

We managed to register our 4 deer this year. There is hope but I understand the skepticism.
