im not too sure if live releasing a bobcat sounds like something I'd ever be interested in. It seems like a plan that could go wrong in many ways. Hahahaha. Yea possibly, but what’s the fun in just shooting everything?

Yea possibly, but what’s the fun in just shooting everything? Cat, You live up to your screen name. You ever grabbed a skunk by the tail? They say if you’re quick enough you won’t get sprayed. Kidding. Releasing the dam cat would be the one thing that might prevent me from trapping. I really don’t want to get chewed/scratched by a wild one. My abutter Ron has never mentioned catching one. I’ll check with him and see if he’d be willing to release them for me. He may just SSS them.

Otter sleds work well for releasing unintended catches in foot hold traps. Cover animal up with Otter sled. Push sled until foot and trap are exposed. Release the foot from trap. Some animals will just bounce the sled off of them once trap is off. If not lift sled slowly keeping the sled between you and animal.

I use 1/2 ton truck passenger side front tire to pin them to the ground. You can then back up and they remain calm as you remove the trap.

Yea, lots of videos on youtube of guys using everything from rubbermaid totes to plywood with notches cut in them to release critters.

When the baby skunks were out at night you could run up and kick them. As long as you never got behind them they wouldn't spray. Had to be quick on your feet and come at them head on. Several of my friends got sprayed but I never did. We also had some good times with badgers, and in the water we did some crazy stuff noodling. I can tell you I'm good with most animals but a 10lb snapping turtle scares the hell out of me.

I think using a blanket, tote or sheet of plywood could work pretty well most of the time for bobcats, coyotes, wolves, etc. I've watched some youtube videos and that seems to be a fairly solid plan.
I'd just be more concerned about the 1% of the releases where the guy slips and gets his balls ripped off by a pissed off animal that is caught in a trap.
