Not good for the sugar count, though..,

I know it's pathetic, but I prefer Mrs. Butterworth (or whatever they call it now) or Log Cabin to real maple syrup. I haven't had any of them for over a year. I do love pancakes, but I know they aren't good for me

I haven’t eaten pancakes for a few years. I can’t say that about maple syrup with ice cream. I feel the dark syrup is best.

i am very impressed with the venison bacon from McDonalds Meats in Clear Lake, Mn. A friend gave me two packages. It microwaves faster than real bacon and I actually prefer it. Perhaps that is because of the boar based bacon from last August. Five to ten years ago, I also had a package of venison bacon from Paynesville. Memory says the McDonalds bacon is better.

Smoked a chicken and turkey today. wierd, because I had them on at the same time. They both came up to 165 at the same time, which floored me. And the chicken came out looking GREAT. The turkey exterior wise, looks over done. Cutting into them tomorrow. I will say, the chicken wings were Fing holy wow good. The turkey wings were a tad dry. Puzzling. I would think the chicken would have been over done if it was cooked the same length as a turkey. What do I know. I just smoke shit and hope its good.

Marinated venison steak, last night, on the grill which was a hit with all members of the family.
I will admit that a beef rib eye on the grill last week was excellent. Probably better than most venison steak.

I did. 48 hours Basted the skin with a mix of olive oil, brown sugar and garlic before the grill, then sprinkled some seasoning.
Process was 100% the same for both. I figured the chicken would be done long before the turkey, but they finished absolutely the same time within minutes of each other.

We've had bloody marys at the Cabooze in Burtrum for a few weekends in a row now. $10 gets you a great Bloody and a light meal. Today, I learned something that really surprised me...homemade Ranch dressing on a boiled egg is amazing. Pretty much a lazy man's deviled egg. The gal who owns the Cabooze is part of a family who has been in the food/bar game for decades. Her brother used to own a number of places locally, and her folks before them. Their Ranch is legendary locally. At any rate...give it a shot sometime if you like deviled eggs. I was trying to add a pic, but I haven't figured out how to do it on my phone.
