Didn't read it... in short, what does it say?
To answer your question; I HAVE to believe that the people in congress are smart enough to know the difference, but instead of making sense they are choosing to cater to the masses.
What I believe is that the majority of voters in this country get 1/8th of their news from CNN, and 7/8th of their information from facebook or some other media that is topic chosen (only shows you what you want to see, and leaves out the opposing side of the story). Because of this I bet 9 out of 10 people in this country actually believe that AR's do function different, shoot faster, and are more powerful than a mini-14.

It's an election year. Gun debate means everyone is making money. Left is raking it in with their "Trump/Assault Rifles/Dead kids letters, and the Right are making with their Gun confiscation/dictator/constitution letters. Nothing of real meaning will get changed. If it did, the money stream would dry up. People in an elevated state of panic will unload their wallets to get some kind of reassurance of their situation.
You wanna really blow someone's mind, show them a video of an almost 170 year old gun design being used as fast as a semi auto.

Seeing that people can now "identify" as something they are not, I propose the following.................... My AR "sees itself" as a 10/22, and if you don't like it, you are a hypocrite and a bigot!

I had this discussion with my wife the other day. She was all "anti AR" and I asked her why. She explained that it was a military weapon. I told her she was watching too much of the news and her liberal skewed TV shows. I explained to her is was NOT a military weapon. It may LOOK like one but an AR was only a semi-automatic rifle. Her grandfather had a mini-14 for years and I explained that AR was no different. Just like my shotgun and my 1911 handgun....it only goes bang once when you pull the trigger. I just LOOKS like an M16/M4. You could see the light bulb go off in her head. She asked why then everyone was so upset.....I explained that because it fuels their anti-gun agenda and it's not based on facts, but only emotions. I then asked her what an "assault weapon" was or what "high capacity" meant. I again pointed out it is a matter of perception.... The bad thing is I truly fear our government is so dis-interested in the facts, that they are only interested in holding party lines based on emotion and thus something really stupid could come out of Washington. I have certainly seen it at a state level.....when IN passed use of 243, 30/30, 30-06, 300 & 308 ONLY being legal "high-power" rifle rounds for deer season, because they specifically specified those rounds having no clue what the hell they where talking about. So it IS possible. They are not interested in doing the RIGHT thing....they just want to WIN!

^^^^ This is going to piss me off and I don't care how much FUCKING money the guy seems to be generating in the economy, he will NOT get my vote next time if he keeps pushing these bullshit agendas............ www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/02/28/trump-publicly-spars-with-republicans-over-concealed-carry-nra-influence-at-school-safety-session.htmlFunny how he says that he would like to see on all encompassing bill that would be "good" with everyone, “It would be so beautiful to have one bill that everybody could support as opposed to, you know, 15 bills,” he said. But then he tells Steve Scalise that the concealed carry reciprocity between states could not be included in the bill he is endorsing but would have to be a separate piece of legislation. During the meeting, which also included prominent Democrats, Trump told House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., who was gravely injured in a mass shooting this summer, that a comprehensive gun bill would not pass if it included a concealed carry reciprocity proposal desired by Republicans.
“You know, I’m your biggest fan in the whole world,” Trump told Scalise. “I think that bill maybe one day will pass, but it should pass as a separate. If you’re going to put concealed carry between states into this bill, we’re talking about a whole new ball game.”
Trump added: “I’m with you, but let it be a separate bill.”
Trump pulls this shit and he won't have to worry about being re-elected in 2020.....

Hearing all this makes me want to buy another AR, seems like a good time to support the industry.
I currently own one 5.56, a rebadged Adams Arms I purchased at Fleetfarm. I was thinking of picking up a 308, any brands/models users like?

Best way to get a better than off-the-shelf AR and the Feds don't have to know about it at all.

Trump pulls this shit and he won't have to worry about being re-elected in 2020..... What's the issue? Trumps approach is right, focus on solving one large complex issue at a time. You can't get Washington to solve one narrow problem let alone making the issue much more complex with several issues. His comment about wanting one bill, sure that would be great because it would not be so much work. Unfortunately that's not reality, nobody gets the easy bottun. Instead he is faced with having to fight for each issue which is a pain in the ass. Still, each of these issue need to stand on their own. Trump has learned that Washington is all about baby steps otherwise you get off topic and lose your message. Having the Republicans take steps to protect kids is good for kids and good politically. Argueing now for having the right to carry weapons across state lines does not look good under the current circumstances. By the way, if your frustrated with Trump, how would you feel about Hillary, Obama or any of the other lefties?

At one time I had commented to Jim Timber that we should have a get together on the topic of building ARs, similar to the grafting get together we had. Unfortunately he was not intersted in putting one together. I thought it would be fun and we could see the methods to assemble and build a gun.

You can't have it both ways, the bill is either all encompassing and everything is in, or it is not, regardless of the current circumstances. That is legislation by emotion and it's not good for anyone. No one gets to have their cake and eat it too. I think every line item, in every bill ever, should have to be voted on individually. None of this burying some bullshit agenda in a bill that could not possibly lose, just because you know that agenda would never pass on it's own merit. That is precisely why we have shitty, sketchy laws on the books that only help special interest groups and damn the masses. They will tell you voting on each item is not practical, I say bullshit, shut up and do your job, make the laws simpler and stop trying to hide shit in them and voting on the individual items would not be such a mess.
The other thing is, Trump is completely and utterly trying to pan for votes here, he wouldn't have even given this one thought if it were not for the Parkland shooting, again, playing on peoples emotions, not common sense. Not to mention the fact that Trump is not really the one I would want to step forward as my steward of the 2nd Amendment, has he ever even fired a gun? Held one in his hands?
As far as the lefties thing goes, I don't care if you are right, left, or upside-down, one should not rule the greatest country in the free world through emotions and knee jerk reactionary measures.

I have not personally built one by myself, but I have 2 very good friends that I have helped with multiple builds, both rifle(.223 and .300 Blackout) and pistol(.300 Blackout) versions of the AR. I know others on here have built their own as well, pretty sure you could get some good advice that would put you well on your way if you choose this route. I am currently contemplating building either a Steyr AUG or H&K MP5, I just can't decided if I want a pistol or rifle caliber? The AUG comes in both .223 and 9mm and the MP5 can be commonly had in either 9mm or .40 S&W, and they even have a 10MM variant, which would be badass if it were not for the cost and limited availability of the ammo.

Let's think like the Trumpster here. Remember back in December or January when he offered to grant amnesty to all the criminals here from other countries? At first glance, everyone panicked that Trump had hosed us, he's nothing more than a better speaking Jeb Bush. And what happened? For two days, the media tried igniting a shit storm with Trump's base, trying to break them by saying your messiah is a fraud.
But what really happened, is for two days he got the media to tell all the criminals and millenials that Trump had agreed to let everyone stay. He put the left in a position forcing them to turn down what they claim they wanted. It made them look stupid.
A gun bill that takes anything significant away will not pass. Even the democrats are not that stupid. But he's leaving the door wide open for the looney toons to bring up their wet dream list and showcase all the things they want to do to America.
That's how I feel anyway. I can't believe he's smart enough to have made it this far only to make such a poor political decision now. There's got to be more than what it seems.
