I guess this mill is looking for cottonwoods along with the big knotty black oaks that I have. He said they could take even my biggest cottonwood that must be 6'+ in diameter. Earlier he mentioned a mill using these lower value trees for heavy duty trailer planks, but I didn't ask him today if this is the same place.
He recently sold a bunch of these types of trees to this guy and he said they paid surprisingly well, which is good to hear. I honestly just want at least the cottonwoods gone, so getting anything will be a bonus.
Most of My cottonwoods line the bottom of a usually dry east/west creekbed that is between my bedding area and food. The cottonwoods shade everything and create a dead zone. when they are gone I'll have a slight southern slope that will get full sun for the first time and it will likely turn into a nice bedding area.
I really need to start killing buckthorns in this area since they will likely explode in this area once sun hits the ground.

I have a guy cutting on mine for firewood now. He’s clearing an area for a future cabin, fish house or parking.
All trees that had tops taking off from a tornado in 2009. Win win, plus he gives me dry split firewood . He will get 15-20 cords.

Does he pay you for the wood he takes off your place or is the clearing he is doing a decent trade?

I really like to see oak milled, red oak is probably my favorite. Walnut, Aspen and Cherry all cool as well.

I can take pictures of the black oak trees, but I won't have any pictures of the lumber itself since that happens after the wood is gone. Black oak is in the red oak family and has similar colored wood, but it tends to keep more branches so it has more knots in the wood.

I guess Pics of the logs if possible ...if it’s not a local mill .
