I found these on an oak about 10 feet tall. It was on very light soil, heck it was just sand. The tree might be quite old.

Looks like a burr to me. They seem to grow everywhere. Not here in the northeast but, I've added some to my property via seed from Stu. I'm concentrating on adding swamp white oaks now though. Planted 100 from MDC this spring. I plant in small forest openings so they'll take a long time to produce but, they'll hopefully be there long after I'm gone.

I don't have great size on my acorns. They're bigger this year, but they don't look big enough that they'll fall out of their cap.

That is OK. After burs are cleaned up and corn is harvested, they will be back. They will be back for corn, a bit of rye in the woods, alfalfa, and apples.

I just toured a farm that is for sale with a client, full of bur oaks and they are loaded. Great year in my area.

This white oak has a bunch on it this year. The deer skip tons of oaks to come eat at this one when it has acorns on it I didn’t know this one existed until last week. It’s only about 20 yards from the shed, but it’s loaded too.

Some of my burr oaks have lots of acorns while still others have none. Never understand oak trees and acorns.

In southern mn.....most of the Oak trees are white oaks. Huge acorn drops. Soil is pretty tight here.....not so many acorns on normal years.

That's a great looking white oak. White oaks are really rare on the se mn properties I frequent - lots of burs, but no straight whites.

Guess I'm lucky to have two mature ones 50 yards apart in my area?

Guess I'm lucky to have two mature ones 50 yards apart in my area? Please post a picture of the bark. There are supposed to be some in Camp Ripley.
