So Today talked to the property owner of the farm I hunt. It’s 116 acres of CRP. They either are going to lose their contract or will lose it if they don’t plant 1700 trees before the snow flies. Any idea what they are required to plant or if they have any say in what they plant (that I could influence?) The daughter of the family was handling the details so I’m going to try and reach her tomorrow. I thought I actually had the old contract but I need to track it down.

I'm guessing it's maybe a CP-3 or 3A contract, which is crazy because the DNR is usually spending their money killing trees on property they control (I had to). If that's the case, it looks like the DNR will decide what they can pick from. Found this fact sheet for ya. This is assuming he's in one of those two plans. www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/PA_NRCSConsumption/download?cid=nrcseprd1291420&ext=pdf

Where do u buy 1700 trees now? Itasca has shitloads of spruce in stock now. Don't know if you can run plugs through a planter though. Might have to do it the hard way. www.itascagreenhouse.com/page19.html

They sent me a letter and cancelled my dogwood order for spring already. Apparently all the ROD seed was shit.

You could do plugs... plant it for them, you will get cost share to plant. Spruce, Spruce and one row of shrubs is usually what they require?
Minnesota?

I've already sent an email to the daughter this morning who's been the lead on renewing the contract. Hoping for a reply and some influence into what they do. Funny thing is I was going to reach out to them anyways as I wanted to plant a bunch of plugs in the spring for a sreen. Thanks for the info. I'll hopefully hear back and will share some details.

The only contract I ended up having from the last time was a CP12 which we added to implement 3 food plots for the pheasants...and deer.

Here is what I found out:
They need to plant 7,400 trees, mow and thin the existing trees...by September
Trees they can choose from are: white oak, white ash, black walnut, or sugar maple)
(Thinning the existing trees scares me, sounds like the DNR to me)
They are looking to hire this out, anyone know of anyone near the metro that does this?
