Is there anyone near Dunn county, WI willing to spare me some red osier dogwood cuttings or know of a public place i could find them? Have a low wet area i would like to propogate it on. Id but you a case of beer of your choice!! I'd just drive around and look for the wild bushes. I'm not familiar with that area enough to say you should find them in a ditch, but they seem to be around if you look for them. Once you find them in place that appear like no one would miss them, perform some Chinese apple research (steal it all).

I drive by a big chunk of public land east of Menominie often. It's basically a big swamp off 29, just south of I 94. There is a gravel hunting area parking lot on the north side of 29 and there is a trout stream just west of the parking lot and a swamp just east. Ive never looked for red osier dogwood there, but it seems like a good spot to look if that's not too far from your house. If you walked along the trout stream or that swamp edge you might find some there.

There are spots up by me in the township that are absolutely thick with ROD. I've got it high on my list to do my ROD cuttings super-cage next weekend. I just hope the ground is thawed enough that I can push the cuttings in. I may have to do it on the dirt pile in my yard, or get the axe out and make a hole and backfill with bought soil. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a puddle with loose soil under it. Things have really opened up by me the past week. I had thought my remote off grid solar security system was losing it's mind when it told me my driveway was clear. But the snow depth tracker bears it out. It's damn near gone from the looks of it. This is last weekend vs today.

There is a lot of rod growing all over, so if you go for a drive you will find some. I might go pick some today since I'd like to have a couple pots to transplant this fall.

free bigi decided this would be a good year to add a little dogwood, so I cut a little from the road ditch a mile from my house. I'll direct plant some and pot a few and hope for the best.

Honker,
We have 4-5 raised beds at home so I’m going to try that in one. I’m going to make the cuttings 12-15” in length and bury them so only 2-3” is above ground. I’m going to scrape 2-4” on one edge on the bottom. I’ve read that works with blueberry cuttings to stimulate root growth. Not sure if I’ll dip in rooting hormone. I’ve read on blueberry and white cedar cuttings you want to have a majority of the cutting under ground to get better rooting results.

Does anyone have a good source for cheaper ROD? I maybe looking to put in a couple patches. My soil is not very wet on a normal year, so cuttings have not worked that great in the past. Thanks!

Welcome JB If your land is dry do you have the ability to grow cuttings a year at home and plant them after they go dormant in the fall or the next spring? That would be cheapest solution and probably more successful way of planting. The NH state nursery has them. This was last year’s pricing. They haven’t posted a new price list for 2021 yet.
