When you guys are bow hunting do you change your standards of what is an acceptable Buck? Do you stick with your hit-List or is it a " in the moment" decision.

I generally carry a bow during rifle season, but if I do happen to grab a rifle then my standards tend to drop. Acceptable bucks with a rifle are a lot smaller than with a bow.
All the deer I shoot are "in the moment" type deer. I don't hold out for hit-list bucks and will shoot a small buck if the situation is cool, or I have a kid with me.

Standards don’t change for me at any point in the season. Been 3 years since I’ve shot a buck and my standards are the reason for that.
What you don’t shoot this year is what you will hunt next year and to me that doesn’t change whether a bow or gun is in my hand.
Just my philosophy. I’m interested to hear my opinions

In Minnesota we are only allowed one buck per year. In Wisconsin can you shoot one with bow and one with rifle?
I really don’t intend to shoot a buck with the bow unless he is so exceptional that I cannot pass him up. Maybe would shoot a doe with the bow at the end of October.
My rifle hunting is usually to wait 4 or 5 days for a nice buck, but then might shoot a yearling after that.
I got to say the buck I shot last year doesn’t impress me for taste. Yearlings are much better .

You guys all see bucks? Lucky. During my fall hunting season, I usually have a good chance at 2-4 bucks. That is Deer that I feel I could kill, bow or rifle. And that includes yearling bucks.

I think I’ve killed 3 bucks in my life with a gun. The last was around 1991.
Bow killed bucks have been much more common from dinks many years ago to a few wall hangers.
For me to shoot a buck with a gun I’d first have to try more often than I do. Plus he would have to be a really nice to get me excited enough to shoot him.
I’ve been known to release an arrow at a buck a little younger than what I prefer. But that was because the situation got my heart pumping.
I guess to answer your question, gun standards are higher than bow standards.

Bow: any net pope and young will do.
Gun: needs to be 5+ years old or 140"+

You guys that don't see deer are diehards! I see 2-4 shootable bucks per sit, that doesn't count what I see in the distance or on the drive to/from the stand. Even with all those killable deer I only fill a tag once every 2-3 yrs. Guess I'm picky, or I just enjoy watching and waiting for "the one". Someday I'm going to kill something big and it's going to be cool.

I usually will get one chance on a buck a year and my season runs from September 15-December 9th between archery, black powder, then rifle. . I saw a spike earlier this week at 10 yards but, I was bear hunting. I hope I see another this fall. My standards are 4 point or better so that spike would've gotten a pass anyways.

Umm. Didnt u smoke a monster last year? I havent seen a 140 from a stand since 2004. I didn't kill one last yr but both my boys and my dad did. Pretty sure the last one I killed was two yrs ago, not sure how long it was before that one. My definition of big may be different than some, I would go nuts if I hadn't seen a 140 in the last 9yrs!
