I was talking with some farmers on the current payments for the drop in prices due to the tariffs. I guess the soy payments are OK but the corn payments are a joke. They get half of the corn payments and maybe the second half later. I will bet government salaries and benefits for those who send out the corn payments will far outpace the dollars in the actual corn payment. The large issue with Farming is over Production. Farmers in general have had a sweet deal compared to small business owners. If farmers want a better deal their Needs to be a better way to take land out of production. Much of the land around me is Sandy and highly irrigated. Naturally it probably should be in Grasses rather than corn and beans. I don't know the long term impact of irrigation but it is concerning to poor that much ground water on the earth. People may be willing to idle land if there were better tax policy to either incentive or not punish people.

KS and Colorado had a long term legal battle over water rights coming from the Arkansas River. It's headwaters are in the Rocky mountains and it flows through the dry sands of eastern CO and western KS before turning south at Wichita. Irrigation in CO depleted the water supply and KS suffered because CO was using the water before it could get to us. The courts tried to fix things but just last summer I was talking with a water specialist who said the water tables were still receding. She had all sorts of doomsday scenario's (like specialists often do). Who know what the actual long term affects are, but there certainly can be visible short term affects.

Farmers should be planting something else instead of planting something that loses money and hoping for a bigger subsidy. They should also get higher prices. China and Europe should not get CHEAP grain., and WE should not get tax breaks and subsidies on our recreational hunting land. Guess what?Farm subsidies, tax breaks, forestry incentives, milk price supports, research grants, industry studies, energy programs, and every conceivable handout you can think of for the immigrants and the poor, all come out of our pockets. We live in such a warped & perverted system of tax, spend, and then tax some more. All so people can do what they want, instead of what they need to do.

Rather than giving out Ag subsidies, I would prefer to see that money used to increase crp. That voluntarily lowers the number of acres in production, which will raise prices for farmers while increasing wildlife numbers significantly at the same time.

It's been awhile but years ago someone posted a site where you could see what each farmer had received in benefits. I was shocked to see what my neighbor received. Anybody still have that link?

I just laugh when this gets posted. With over 2,000 different subsidies in this country, this is the only one ever posted. Bahahahahahaha!

RDO buys a lot of crop insurance. Crop insurance in my case in MN is about 2/3's government subsidized. Its the only way you can get insurance, is to buy sibsidized. Same as a home in a flood plain. You can only buy subsidized flood insurance. So EWG tracks that. Trust me, if we could buy crop insurance from a competitive source, we would. Right now crop insurance companies have the gov in their back pocket. They get the gov to pay them 3 times what the insurance is worth and label us with the subsidy. Great scam.

My guess is the MN homestead tax subsidy would give almost all of us a big number as well. And I am sure there is a website that adds that up as well.
